Last weekend, I hosted a Booze-Free Sunday Session on the Gold Coast.

If you’d told me a few years ago that one day I’d be running alcohol-free social events (and genuinely loving them), I probably would’ve laughed. Back then, I couldn’t imagine a social life without a drink in hand. A Sunday sesh without a glass of something? What would even be the point?

But this event reminded me exactly what the point is.

It’s about offering something different. It’s about inclusion, choice, and creating space for people to connect without the pressure to drink – or the need to explain why they’re not. Whether someone’s cutting back, doesn’t drink at all, or is simply curious about what it feels like to socialise booze-free, events like these show that there’s another way. A way that’s still full of connection, fun, and energy – just without the hangover.

I know that on paper, alcohol-free events can sound… well, a little boring. Maybe even a bit gimmicky. I get the hesitation – I’ve been there myself. But there’s something unexpectedly powerful about choosing to show up as you are, no liquid courage required.

Here’s what I’ve discovered (and what many of the guests told me they experienced, too):

It breaks the all-or-nothing cycle. You don’t have to choose between going out and going overboard. Booze-free events give you a third option – to show up, stay present, and still have a great time.

It creates space for genuine connection. There’s no performance, no blurred conversations you forget the next day. You’re there, fully. And so is everyone else.

You still get to enjoy the fun stuff. Great food, good music, meaningful chats, laughter, and yes, alcohol-free bubbles. You’re not missing out – you’re just experiencing it differently.

You get to rediscover who you are socially. Without the social lubricant, you learn how you really like to engage, what conversations light you up, and what makes you feel most yourself.

You leave the event as fresh as you arrived. No hangovers. No regrets. Just memories you can actually remember.

If you’ve been curious about trying a booze-free event but haven’t taken the plunge yet, here’s something to try: set a micro-goal. Choose one thing in your calendar – a dinner, a birthday, even just drinks with a friend – and decide to go booze-free. Just once. See how it feels. You might surprise yourself.

Because the truth is, socialising without alcohol isn’t about missing out. It’s about showing up fully. It’s about connection without compromise. It’s about choice – and creating more of the moments that make you feel good long after the event is over.

And if you want a little taste of what our Gold Coast session was like, here’s a short video from the day. It’s just a glimpse, but I think it captures what I’m talking about far better than words ever could. Watch here.
