I often get asked if I lost friends when I changed my relationship with alcohol. Let me tell you a little story…
One of my best friends is a wine lover. She even has an account dedicated to a famous wine region in Australia (the Hunter Valley).
In the past 10 years we have shared so many significant times together – birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, play dates, weekends away, the list goes on…alcohol was ALWAYS present. It was not unusual to see a steady flow of bubbles and margs whenever we were together!
That was until, one day, I woke up and decided to change my relationship with alcohol. I started introducing alcohol free drinks into our catch ups, ordering nonalcoholic cocktails when we went out and driving too and from parties.
We started discussing alcohol reduction and then my desire to build a mindful drinking app, to help others that wanted to go down the same path. To say this friend was supportive is an understatement (in fact she was one of my first paying members)!
Fast forward to last weekend. We hosted her and her family for dinner. She offered to bring the drinks. Not only did she rock up with French Champagne for the drinkers, she had also sourced a bottle of French alcohol-free bubbles for me
So, do you loose friends when you start drinking less? Not the real ones, the real ones lift you up and cheer you on every step of the way 🤍
